Background:

After graduating from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science degree, Dr. Hu entered the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda Maryland. He received his internal medicine and hematology/oncology training in the army and graduated from his fellowship in 1994. His duty stations as an oncologist were in Washington and Hawaii. He left active duty in 2000 and then entered the Army Reserves where he presently serves as the Commander of an Army Reserve Hospital composed of over 500 soldiers.

After 2000, Dr. Hu served as a clinical hematologist/oncologist in the San Diego area. At the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, he served as a clinician and mentor for internal medicine residents and medical students where his advice was sought for publications and career development. He has published several articles and abstracts on access to care for breast cancer and the use of telemedicine in remote areas. Dr. Hu maintains an active interest in sarcoma and genitourinary cancers and is a strong advocate of clinical trials.
